LMS subject accessibility review with UDOIT

UDOIT can scan your subject content on the LMS, generate a list of accessibility issues and provide guidance on how to correct them.

This guide only refers to the UFIXIT option in UDOIT. For information on using the document conversion feature, see the document conversion with UDOIT guide.

  1. If you haven’t done so already, in your subject settings, move the UDOIT link up into the subject's navigation menu to enable the tool.
  2. Click on UDOIT in the Canvas LMS subject navigation menu. If this is the first time you have opened UDOIT for the day it will automatically begin to scan the subject. If you wish to scan the subject again after making changes to the subject content, click the Scan Now button at the top of the page. Scanning may take a few minutes.

Note that the default setting for UDOIT is to scan only published materials.

  1. The home tab will give you an accessibility score and an overview of the accessibility issues that UDOIT has found in your subject. To begin to address these issues, you can click on one of the links on the home page, or click on the UFIXIT tab at the top of the screen.

  1. The UFIXIT tab has a brief summary across the top of the page followed by a full list of accessibility issues the tool has found in the subject content. To look for particular issues, use the Filter button to choose what types of issues you want to see, or use the search box. Accessibility issues are grouped into visual issues, auditory issues, cognitive issues and so on.

  1. To review the full details of an issue, click on the line for that issue in the list. A pop up window will open, detailing the issue and either offer remediation options directly within the tool, or give remediation guidance with a link to the Canvas content. The following screenshot shows an example of an issue that can be remediated directly in the UDOIT tool.

  1. To review the accessibility of the files in your subject, click on the Review Course Files tab at the top of the page. This tab will show you a list of files that UDOIT has found accessibility issues with. Clicking anywhere on a file row will prompt a pop up with options for replacing the file or producing alternate formats.
