Known Issue: Students can navigate to items in modules they are not assigned to

Students can navigate to the next external URL, external tool or course file, when contained within a module they are not able to access directly.

Issue

By using the ‘Next’ button at the bottom of a previous module’s page, students can navigate to the next external URL, external tool, or course file, even if it is contained within a module they are not able to access directly.

Status

Canvas is aware of the issue. No resolution is expected at this time.

Workaround

For external URL, external tool, or course file module items that require restriction, staff will need to use the ‘Assign To’ feature to apply access restrictions directly to each individual item rather than the containing module.
