Known Issue: Old-format audio embeds do not play on Classic Quizzes, Assignments and Discussions

Issue

Audio embedded using the older RCE format from several years ago does not play when viewed on Classic Quizzes, Assignments or Discussions. Instead, students and staff see a "Failed retrieving media sources" error.

This affects older audio embeds specifically. Audio embedded using the current RCE format still plays correctly, and old-format embeds continue to work as expected on Pages.

Status

Canvas is aware of this issue and currently investigating a solution.

Workaround

As a workaround, remove the old audio embed and reinsert the audio using the RCE's current media tools. This creates an up-to-date embed that plays correctly on Classic Quizzes, Assignments and Discussions.
