In-venue exam support for students

This guide provides information about available in-venue exam support (including technical support) for students.

Connecting to the internet and power

Digital exams held in the Royal Exhibition Building, Wilson Hall, and Kwong Lee Dow will be fully equipped with power at each desk. However, only Australian standard 3-pin plugs are supported. Students should ensure their chargers are compatible as international adapters will not be supplied. Please note that some of the power boards at these venues may not be able to accommodate large international adapters, if students wish to bring their own.

Students should connect their laptop to UniWireless before the exam. If their laptop is connected to any mobile hotspots, they should disconnect and switch to UniWireless prior to entering the exam venue to prevent disruptions.

In-venue support and technical assistance

Students without a laptop or students who are unable to install LockDownBrowser to their devices can request a loan device by filling out the form located in the laptop preparation (on-campus exams) guide. The loan request form will be open 2-3 weeks before the exam period starts.

OKTA Verification is no longer required at the Royal Exhibition Building and Wilson Hall, but will still be required for exams held at Kwong Lee Dow. Students must have their phones switched off prior to entering the exam venue. This reduces the risk of students inadvertently connecting to their personal hotspots which will drop out once their phones are switched off, risking their exam submission.

If a student’s laptop powers off or stops working in an exam, they will be able to switch to a replacement device from the University fleet. An invigilator will be present to assist the student with this process.

Platforms such as LMS Classic Quiz and Cadmus auto-saves work frequently and have been configured so that they don’t end or auto-submit upon disconnection.

Backup and contingency plans

Physical backup copies of exams will not be available for digital exams. In the event of technical issues, students will be provided with a replacement device. SASS Exam Support has protocols for rescheduling exams if a broader disruption occurs.
