What is Schoolyear Lockdown Browser?

Schoolyear is a secure browser environment designed to protect academic integrity during on-campus digital exams. Schoolyear's Lockdown Browser prevents students from accessing unauthorised resources and leaving the secure testing environment.

Schoolyear Lockdown Browser is currently only available for LMS Classic Quiz exams.

Teaching and learning applications

  • Locking down the device: Schoolyear Lockdown Browser creates a secure assessment environment by restricting access to operating system functions, browser navigation, and unauthorised applications during an exam. This ensures that students remain focused on the assessment and reduces opportunities for academic misconduct.
  • Restricting permitted URLs and files: Access can be limited to specific approved files and online resources that are required for the exam. This enables the delivery of open-resource or research-based assessments while preventing students from accessing unauthorised content, search engines, or external communication platforms.
  • Secure file submissions: Students can create and submit assessment files within the managed AVD environment, helping to protect the integrity of their work. Secure file submissions can also reduce the risk of lost work, unauthorised file sharing, or submission of content from unapproved sources.

Access and licensing

The University of Melbourne has a license for Schoolyear Lockdown Browser for Canvas LMS Quizzes. It is currently only available in the LMS for subjects enrolled in the Schoolyear pilot project.
