Recording, accessing and sharing Zoom recordings
Enable Cloud recording (one-time set up)
On Zoom, you can set up your session to record to the device on which you are hosting the session, or to the Cloud. We recommend you record to the Cloud, due to large file sizes generated by Zoom recordings.
Cloud recording is a global setting that you only need to enable once; you do not need to do this every time you run a Zoom session.
- Log into your Zoom account.
- Click Settings in the left hand menu.
- Go to the Recording tab and ensure the Cloud recording option is enabled.

You can further modify your Cloud recording settings if you wish to do so by ticking or unticking the options listed on the page. A common setting to choose is ‘Record gallery view with shared screen’. This setting ensures that all participants will appear on the screen in the recording and is useful for sessions such as tutorials, group discussions, or interviews.
Recording options
Zoom sessions can be recorded automatically when a session starts, or manually during the session.
Automatic recording
When automatic recording is enabled, Zoom will record your session as soon as it starts.

- Under Settings, navigate to the Recording tab.
- Enable automatic recording.
- Select storage location for the recording. You can either record to your computer, or to the Cloud.
- Save your changes.
To turn off automatic recording, you can click Reset or simply toggle the button off.
Manual recording
To manually start a recording of your Zoom session, locate the Record button at the bottom of your Zoom meeting window.

- Click Record.
- Select storage location for recording. We recommend recording to the Cloud.
- If you are unable to see the Record button on the toolbar, click on the More icon.
You can also pause or stop the recording as needed during the session.
Accessing and sharing your recording
There are a range of ways to access your Zoom recordings and make them available to students.
Accessing your Zoom recording
If you have chosen to record to the Cloud, you will be emailed a link to your recording. The recording will include a video file, an audio-only file, and a Chat stream text file (if available). Please note that the email may take time to reach your inbox as the recording requires time to be processed.
To download your recording, click on the Download button on the top right corner of the page.

Cloud recordings can also be accessed via the Recordings & Transcripts tab on the left hand menu on Zoom. To download your recording, click on More (three-dot menu) and click Download.

Sharing your Zoom recording with students
Once you have downloaded the file, you can give students access in multiple ways.
- Upload to Lecture Capture (recommended)
- Provide students with the download link by publishing it to an appropriate place in your LMS subject. We recommend against this method as Cloud recordings will eventually expire on Zoom. For more information, please refer to the Understanding Zoom and Lecture Capture (EchoVideo) integration guide.
