Canvas LMS workshops, events, and webinars

Learning Environments are providing an extensive set of workshops and resources in support and preparation for the 2020 rollout of Canvas and Kaltura. These are available to both teaching and professional staff and are designed to be practical and linked to your teaching needs.

Workshops will be offered regularly throughout the rest of 2019 and well into 2020, in conjunction with Faculty support.

Staff can attend the below workshops which are offered centrally, or attend local Faculty or campus workshops. Local workshops will be run in conjunction with access to your migrated subjects and related migration support. To book into local faculty workshops click on Workshops by faculty below.

How to register

Registrations for all workshops are made via Eventbrite. Find the workshop that suits you in the schedule and click on Register to be taken to the Eventbrite registration page. Please note that registrations will close the day before the start of the workshop. All registered participants will receive an email with confirmation of the event details and location prior to the workshop.

  • Poll Everywhere

    Prerequisites

    None

    Description

    This 90-minute workshop focuses on the Poll Everywhere online tool which allows users to create and collect responses to poll questions or activities. In this workshop, staff will create polls and learn how to collect responses in a live session.

    Topics include: Responding to polls, creating polls, editing polls, activating polls to collect responses, inserting polls in PowerPoint and adding links to polls in the LMS

    Learning outcomes

    • Experience Poll Everywhere polls as a learner
    • Create polls, add polls to PowerPoint, activate polls and display responses to polls
    • Add Poll Everywhere links to the LMS
    • Locate and identify relevant resources and support to assist the application of Poll Everywhere

  • Lecture Capture

    Prerequisites

    Description

    This 90-minute workshop will explore the active learning potential and video management options in the Lecture Capture system.

    Topics include: managing your lecture recordings, sharing slides with students, uploading videos, lecture capture analytics, student note-taking, Q&A discussions within Lecture Capture, and active engagement slides.

  • Qualtrics for teaching and learning

    Prerequisites

    None

    Description

    Using surveys in teaching and learning can increase student engagement and allow teaching staff to gather feedback from students regularly throughout a teaching period.

    This 90 minute workshop focuses on the use of Qualtrics surveys in teaching and learning contexts. Participants will explore different purposes and opportunities for presenting surveys to their students, experience a range of surveys as both a respondent and survey owner, and create and publish surveys.

    Topics include creating and managing projects, creating and managing questions, survey flow, survey distribution options, collaboration, and reviewing response data.

  • Rubrics

    Prerequisites

    No prior experience is needed.

    Description

    Well-designed task briefs and rubrics are essential to ensuring that students are clear on the expectations and aims of assessments. For teaching staff, a clear assessment task brief and rubric also assists in ensuring an accurate and fair grading process and in quickly providing rich feedback to students.

    This 90-minute workshop introduces the key features to consider when designing task briefs and rubrics for assessment. Participants are asked to bring along an example rubric from their own teaching context to reflect upon in light of the information discussed. Choices of technology in the LMS that support the use of rubrics will also be demonstrated.

    Learning outcomes

    • Identify the key elements in a quality task brief
    • Critically evaluate a rubric and reflect on rubric participants bring along
    • Review technology options for using rubrics to provide feedback
