Tests and surveys

Use online tests and surveys to assess the learning occurring in a subject.

Tests and surveys may be used to assess the learning occurring in a subject. Tests record answers that are tied to individuals and thus can be used for grade contribution to a subject. Surveys permit teaching staff only to see which students have responded to the survey but the specific question responses are anonymous.

Blackboard contains 17 question types which may be used in any combination to generate tests and surveys, including multiple choice, fill in the blank, short answer, matching and calculated numeric. Grading is automatic for questions with set responses (e.g. multiple choice). Manual grading is required for open-ended questions (e.g. short answer). Question- and response-level feedback can be provided immediately following submission or at a later date during semester, depending on the pedagogical goals of the subject.

Tests and surveys may contain questions drawn at random from question pools, enabling a single test to be delivered multiple times to students throughout semester with students receiving different questions each time they attempt the test.
