Announcements

The Announcements tool allows staff users in a subject to create a notification that is visible to all users within that subject. Announcements within a subject can appear on any dedicated Announcements page, a Tools page or Module page. Announcements will also appear outside the subject, on the My Home tab, and can be sent as email if desired. Announcements can include text, images, media content, and links to websites and other files.

Announcements may be used to address the “provision of information” issues raised in the LMS framework document.

Display of the Create Announcement window with its many options
  1. At Web Announcement Options select the intended duration for the Announcement.
Not Date Restricted – This displays the Announcement on the page immediately, where the newest Announcement will appear at the top. If you create a 'Not Date Restricted' Announcement and want it to always appear at the top of the list, drag the Announcement above the line “New announcements appear below this line...” section.
Date Restricted – This displays the Announcement on the page according to a set time frame. Choose when the Announcement should appear on the page (Display After), and when it should be removed (Display Until). Selecting 'Date Restricted' without selecting a date will default to Display After = today’s date and time.
  2. Click Email Announcement to send the Announcement as an email to all users in the subject. This option is immediate. If you select email and submit the Announcement, then realise there is a spelling error, there is no way to recall the email.
  3. Subject Link allows the option of linking to a particular page within the subject. Use Browse to navigate to the desired location in the subject map. This option could be used in the case of an Announcement reminding students that assignments are due by the end of the week, where a link to the assignment page could be included.
  4. Click Submit.
