Subject copy forward

The 'copy subject forward' nomination option saves staff from needing to create a subject from scratch. This process only copies some components of a subject. Further actions are required to make a subject ready for students.

  1. Turnitin assignments

Turnitin assignments are copied forward in the LMS automatically along with other subject content. Following recent upgrades to both Turnitin and the LMS, there is changed behaviour for copied-forward Turnitin assignments. To avoid problems, staff should delete all Turnitin assignments from the copied-forward subject and create new ones as needed. Creating new Turnitin assignments ensures that the right student group is populated into the right Turnitin assignment. See the Turnitin guide for more information.

  2. Discussion boards

Discussion boards are copied forward, but forums and posts from past deliveries are not so they are not shown to new students (again, due to student IP ownership). Before delivering the subject, new forums must be created for new students to add posts. See the Discussion Boards guide for more information.

  3. Tests

If the description and/or settings indicate specific dates from the past subject, these must be updated for new students.

  4. Surveys

If the description and/or settings indicate specific dates from the past subject, these must be updated for new students.

  5. Assignments

If the description and/or settings indicate specific dates from the past subject, these must be updated for new students.

Subject Copy in the control panel

Sections of previously offered subjects can be copied using the manual Subject Copy option available in the control panel. You will need to be a coordinator in both subjects in order to access the previously delivered content and then to target the new subject.

Hint: When an existing subject is copied into a new subject shell, any menu items that appear in both subjects will be duplicated in the new subject and cause issues with the new menu structure. To avoid this, delete all the menu items in the new subject shell before you copy the existing subject.
